Elton John has been dominating the music industry for decades now and has released 27 Top 10 hits on Billboard’s Hot 100 list and 40 charting songs on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary list. He’s easily one of the most talented musicians of all time.
During the pandemic, forced to cancel his tour, Elton John decided to record a new album, this time collaborating with other musicians of different genders, ages, and musical traditions. The album, The Lockdown Sessions, features 16 tracks, all of which include Elton John collaborating with other artists, including Nicki Minaj, Yo-Yo Ma, Eddie Vedder, Stevie Nicks, Lil Nas X and more. The album’s first single “Cold Heart”, recorded with Dua Lipa, has already reached #1 on the UK charts, earning Elton John the record for being the only solo artist who has had a Top 10 Hit in the UK for 6 consecutive decades.
In an interview with Complex, Elton John shared, “The last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album. But, as the pandemic went on, one‐off projects kept cropping up and I’ve ended with a selection of really interesting and diverse stuff that was completely different to anything I’m known for, stuff that took me out of my comfort zone into completely new territory.”
The album has been released on all digital platforms for both streaming and downloading, and it’s even been released in physical form on CD, and for audiophiles, special edition vinyl and cassettes are available.
