The 90-minute season premiere of the beloved FX horror anthology, American Horror Story was met with a near-record opening of 5.81 million live-plus-same-day viewers on Wednesday night.

The fourth-season Hotel took home American Horror Story‘s second-highest rating, trumped only by last year’s Freak Show premiere (3.1). While this year’s season premiere also matched the second season’s premiere.

By and large, Hotel obliterated its cable and broadcast competition, beating out ABC’s Nashville (1.27 million), CBS’ Code Black (1.52 million), and NBC’s Chicago PD (1.9 million).

Will Ryan Murphy’s latest installment of AHS become a Wednesday night mainstay? The ratings are saying a resounding “yes.”
