Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was presented with the Trevor Hero Award on Monday, June 26, in honor of his work with The Trevor Project. Since 2009, Radcliffe has appeared in numerous public service announcements with the organization and made public statements spotlighting the issue of LGBTQ youth suicide.
While accepting the award, Radcliffe was quick to laud the suicide prevention hotline workers of the Trevor project, individuals he considers the “real heroes.”
“To take that call and say, ‘Yes, I will be the one who saves this life,’ takes such courage and compassion,” Radcliffe said. “If you can wake up every day and be emotionally open and honest, regardless of what you get back from the world, then you can be the hero of your own story.”
