While gay and lesbian rights in India have taken a step back in recent years, the transgender community has seen slow gains toward public acceptance in Indian society. Now, another historic achievement has been made for the trans* community as Padmini Prakash, a transwoman, has been selected to anchor the news.  “I was very worried because I also had to focus on my diction and maintain a steady narrative pace to ensure that there was clarity and viewers could understand me,” Prkash told the Times of India about her anxiety hosting the evening news. Worries, though, that any reporter still has. Prakash has worked on the Lotus News in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu since last August, and quickly received a promotion due to her widespread popularity.
