Laverne Cox Narrates the Fight for Transgender Rights

TIME magazine, in conjunction with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), has released an animated video depicting the history of the fight for transgender rights and it’s current state with a special focus on trans women of color.

Time Marches Forward and So Do We is narrated by Emmy Award–winning actress Laverne Cox, the first trans woman of color to be cast as a regular in a network television series, and beautifully illustrated by Molly Crabapple.

The video is a moving tribute to our “transcestors” like Martha P. Washington, Miss Major, and Sylvia Rivera and the progress they helped achieve. It’s also a stark reminder of the current state of transgender rights including the fact that ONLY 18 states have laws that protect our trans brothers and sisters.

Take a look below and get a brief history lesson.
