LEGO Releases First Ever LGBTQIA+ Set

On June 1st, LEGO’s brand new “Everyone is Awesome” set will go on sale. The 346-piece set presents a rainbow backdrop with a group of friends standing proudly in front of it. The set was designed by LEGO employee, Matthew Ashton, who said he designed the set to be a symbol of positivity and inclusivity for everyone. The rainbow flag combines both the traditional Pride flag with the BLM colors to symbolize the intersectionality of race and sexuality. The product even includes the colors of the trans pride flag, creating an epic backdrop of eleven colors.

According to Ashton, while growing up, he experienced a lot of bullying and teasing for being gay. He stated, “Coming out is the period in your life where I think you can feel the loneliest and so uncertain about what your future is going to hold once you have taken that step… If I had been given this set by somebody at that point in my life, it would have been such a relief to know that somebody had my back. To know that I had somebody there to say “I love you, I believe in you. I’ll always be here for you.”

The pieces can all be swapped and rearranged, allowing everyone to create their very own rainbow. The set will go on sale on June 1st and will cost $34.99. To order, click here.
