Last year, the Los Angeles LGBT Center (often referred to as simply “The Center”) raised $1.3 million for queer charities thanks to their Love in Action telethon. To ensure that grassroots nonprofits are able to continue enacting change, the center is putting on another telethon this summer.
On Saturday, August 14th from 7-9 pm PT, the Love in Action telethon returns. The center is partnering with the TV station KTLA 5 to broadcast the event, and KTLA 5 news anchor, Cher Calvin, will be joining actress Jane Lynch as host for the evening.
The event will have a star-studded ensemble on stage entertaining throughout the night. So far, the cast of Grace and Frankie (Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Sam Waterston, and Martin Sheen) have signed on to partake in the festivities, along with other celebrities like Adam Lambert and Manila Luzon. The LGBT Center also says to keep an eye out throughout the month of July as more names are expected to be added to the list.
Center CEO, Lorri L. Jean stated, “LGBTQ people have been disproportionally impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the work to build back amid the full reopening of California is just beginning. The dollars donated during our first telethon in September were put to use the very next day, and we are asking for your support again to help the most vulnerable people in our community.”
