While Royal Caribbean has introduced an innovative “dynamic dining” program on Anthem of the Seas where guests can choose from high-end experiences—like Jamie Oliver’s Jamie’s Italian—Celebrity has created its own culinary experience to entice guests. Not only has it brought in Michelin-awarded Chef Cornelius Gallagher as the associate vice president of food and beverage operations, the company has also begun airing a spot that shows their commitment to local and seasonal ingredients with Chef Gallagher buying seafood from ports-of-call.
Upping their culinary game and their activities game, Celebrity Cruises has created a “A Taste of Film,” an immersive movie-screening experience where guests sit in ultra-lux chairs, are served food, and watch food-themed films—all under the stars on a quiet and posh section of the ship’s deck.
Last night, we got to preview the experience. Watching The 100-Foot Journey and eating Indian- and French dishes (a nod to the movie’s culture-clash-driven plot), we delighted in this multi-sensory experience that felt super-romantic and sinfully overindulgent. But that’s exactly the point.
Indian-inspired dishes such as crispy shrimp with tamarind or beef filet Bombay with mango pickle marked just the start. Then, when the setting transitions to France, we savor truffled mushroom risotto, sea scallops with glazed leeks, and port wine jus, and Valrhona chocolate cake with sweet vanilla chantilly. We can only imagine how much more fun the experience will be once out at sea and outdoors. Each menu, curated by Chef Gallagher will, of course, pertain to the film being shown.
The program will make its way to Celebrity Summit and Celebrity Millennium. Guests on Celebrity Infinity, which debuted the new Rooftop Terrace last December, already has the program.
