President Michelle Bachelet has introduced legislation to bring marriage equality and adoption rights to Chile. The bill will be introduced on August 28, and it reads: “Marriage is a solemn contract by which two people, of the same or different sex, unite themselves, and for life, in order to live together, to procreate and to help each other.” The bill has now been signed the proposal that will now be sent to lawmakers. “We can’t let old prejudices be stronger than love,” Bachelet said.
But gay right advocates celebrated the decision as an important step toward full rights.
