First Transgender Service Member Joins Military After Trump’s Ban

A transgender service member has joined the military despite Trump’s ban he announced last July. According to Maj. Dave Eastburn, a Pentagon spokesperson said:  “The Department of Defense confirms that as of February 23, 2018, there is one transgender individual under contract for service in the U.S. Military.”

Defense Secretary James Mattis last week said there was no reason why transgender service members shouldn’t serve openly in the military, again breaking with Trump. [FX]
