More Gays Arrested in Egypt as Government Continues Crackdown

In the last few months Egypt has been leading a crackdown on the gay community. The raids began after a group of men waved with the waving of a rainbow flag at a concert and then when police arrested seven young men for “debauchery” calling the men  “perverts” and “transsexuals.” There have also been claims that the police are using social media apps like Grindr to entrap gay men.

Now, news comes that the government entered the private home of a man and arrested nine people claiming that the men were engaging in, once again, “debauchery.”

Government officials, like the director of security, Mustafa al-Nimr said that the men’s behavior was a “threat to public security.”
