Malta is the First European Country to Ban Gay-Conversion Therapy

The tiny nation of Malta has become the first European country to ban gay-conversion therapy. It’s almost universally agreed that conversion therapy does more harm than good, so the island nation passed a bill that would allow the imprisonment of doctors who practice the dangerous methods of gay-conversion therapy. The legislature voted through the Affirmation of Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Express Bill, and called the practice “deceptive and harmful.”

According to PinkNews: “Professional bodies welcomed the news, with The Malta Chamber of Psychologists, the Maltese Association of Psychiatry, the Malta Association of Family Therapy and Systemic Practice and the Malta Association for the Counselling Profession all expressing their satisfaction at the bill’s passing.”
