2022 has been a watershed year for The Walt Disney Company. After decades of appeasing conservatives by hiding LGBTQ characters and remaining silent about civil rights, the company was forced to become vocal after Florida passed its “Don’t Say Gay” law.
Before long, Disney discovered what minority groups have known for years…Republicans develop unrelenting vendettas against their perceived enemies. Since Disney came forward and said they support equality, Republicans have done everything in their power to destroy the company – from removing their special governmental status to attempting to change copyright laws, and even accusing the company of being run by pedophiles who want to sexually prey upon children.
it’s been a heartbreaking yet eye-opening moment for the company that has only furthered their commitment to the LGBTQ community.
Now, in celebration of Pride month, Disney has launched a new collection of LGBTQ-proud clothing, accessories, and toys that it’s calling the Disney Pride Collection. The collection is available for sale in both Disney parks, and 100% of profits are going towards excellent organizations like GLSEN and The Trevor Project, as well as eight other LGBTQ-centric organizations around the globe.
The collection not only included Disney products, but also products from within the Disney universe, including Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar.
In an official statement, the company said, “We will continue to provide authentic products and experiences and create storytelling moments that celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community throughout the year. Stay tuned; more Pride products will roll out globally at various locations and retailers in June and all year long as we continue to celebrate the community.”
To check out the full collection, visit the various gift shops throughout Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
(Hint: themed lands will have unique products – for example, Galaxy’s Edge will be stocked with PRIDE-adorned Star Wars gear and Main Street will carry a majority of the Mickey-themed items).
