A recent poll from GLAAD indicates that a large majority of Americans support companies and politicians who stand up for LGBTQ rights. The poll revealed that around 68% of registered voters agreed that companies and brands should be able to show support to the LGBTQ+ community. Furthermore, around 61% of respondents indicated they believed corporations that showed public support for these communities had a positive impact on wider community acceptance.
Consumers are also more likely to trust and support brands that remain consistent in their values and support civil rights issues, even if they are controversial, LGBTQ Nation reports.
The online poll was conducted via a partnership with MRI-Simmons and GLAAD between March and April. It included a sample of over 5,000 U.S. adults. Questions on the survey covered corporate support for Pride, midterm elections, inflation and more. In fact, around 44% of registered voters said “increasing costs or inflation” was their primary concern coming up on the midterm elections.
Around 74% of voters were more likely to support a midterm candidate who says “we all deserve the freedom to live our lives without fear of discrimination.” Unsurprisingly, 65% of respondents claimed to believe politicians are exploiting transgender issues to distract from more essential issues such as rising costs or international affairs.
GLAAD CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement: “These results confirm what most Americans already believe: we are at our best when we treat our friends, family, and neighbors with basic dignity and respect.” She went on to say, “Voters are tired of divisive culture wars that distract from the real issues keeping families up at night like the skyrocketing costs of housing, fuel, healthcare, and groceries.”
