Everyone’s favorite queer pop star Chappell Roan launched The Midwest Princess Project last month to raise funds for trans youth and LGBTQ+ communities. Roan shared a statement via an Instagram post late last month writing: “These funds will be donated to an incredible organization making a positive impact for trans youth in their communities.” Already, the initiative has raised more than $400,000 in donations from Roan’s 2025 “Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things” pop-up show tour. According to Billboard, one dollar from each ticket sold on Roan’s recent live tour was redistributed to the donation pool.
The Midwest Princess Project will be run by Roan’s team. According to the official website, the nonprofit fundraiser will transfer donations to other great LGBTQ+ support organizations and initiatives like L.A.’s Trans Wellness Center, New York City’s Ali Forney Center, Missouri’s The Center Project, and more.
Roan has supported the LGBTQ+ community since her career took off in 2024 with the overnight success of her single “Good Luck, Babe” and the subsequent rocket launch to stardom she experienced. Roan’s artistic expression is characterized by drag-inspired makeup, crazy costumes, and bold lyricism that references lost loves, queer hookups, and nightlife culture. Through her incorporation of drag culture into her performance persona, Roan has taken every opportunity to give a platform to drag performers, from bringing them on stage at her concerts to featuring them in her music videos.
The Midwest Princess Project is sponsored in part by the Catalyst Philanthropy Fund, a fiscal sponsorship nonprofit that allows organizations to accept tax-deductible donations without filing to become an independent nonprofit.
Other modern day stars have launched similar funds. According to Them, last year, Roan’s pop star peer Sabrina Carpenter launched The Sabrina Carpenter Fund which raised over $1 million to redistribute to LGBTQIA+ organizations and charities.
Those who wish to donate to Roan’s initiative can contribute funds via the GiveButter platform.
