Equality Florida Challenges Education Bans by DeSantis in Stunning TV Ads

The state of Florida is currently doing everything it can to censor free speech and stop kids from learning the truth about America’s history and their fellow Americans.

A wave of bills has begun flooding the Florida legislature that seeks to ban discussions of race, gender, and sexuality in schools. The “reasoning” behind this is that Republicans claim children’s feelings are being hurt and that parents deserve “parental rights” over their children and don’t want their kids being “indoctrinated”.

The fact that many politicians consider learning about LGBTQ rights and racism as “indoctrination” says a lot about where America is as a country. The two bills in Florida, one against LGBTQ discussions and the other against discussing racism and American history, are being promoted by Republicans and Right-Wing media. the same group of people who are always complaining about free speech.

However, as we saw on January 6th with Blue Lives Matter, Republicans only care about an issue if it benefits them and their selfish, bigoted agendas.

To combat the blatant hatred and discrimination against minority communities, Equality Florida has released two TV ads targeting the new bills. The ads show a dystopian future in Florida where teachers and students are being watched and censored.

‘By the Content of Our Curriculum’ challenges Florida’s attempt
to ban the discussion of race and history in schools:

‘My Heroes’ shows the dangers of Florida’s proposed ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill:

According to Equality Florida, both ads are currently airing on MSNBC, CNN, and even Fox News in the Tallahassee region.

Nadine Smith, Equality Florida Executive Director, said in a statement, “While the governor and GOP leadership invokes “parental rights” as justification for censorship and surveillance, the bills Republican leadership is pushing actually diminish the rights of parents. For example, anyone, even someone who doesn’t have a child in schools, is able to object to library books and instructional materials and deny access to every student as a result.”

Smith went on to say, “Governor DeSantis is pushing legislation to curb free speech, propagandize school curriculums, and monitor classroom conversations, private workplaces, and doctor’s offices, all in order to outflank Donald Trump to the right and build an onramp to run for President in 2024.”

Everyone is encouraged to visit FreeToSayGay.org and StopDeSantis.org and to join Equality Florida in taking action to resist the proposed legislation.
